Answers to Common Questions About Dental Implants

Dental ImplantsWe are confident that dental implants are the future. The reason why we can say this with such confidence is the technology itself. Using the latest in medical science combined with techniques designed to ensure that you have the most durable, strong, and beautiful replacement tooth, we know that dental implants are going to change how people consider tooth replacement.

For years, we have been working at fine tuning and refining the art of dental implants. In the meanwhile, people have gotten used to other prosthetic devices such as bridges, which have to be cemented into place, or dentures, which are removable and require an adhesive to bond them in place. With a technology that uses a skilled dentist or oral surgeon to place an implant directly into the bone, we can give you a permanent replacement to those antiquated prosthetics. We also understand that there are going to be folks that are concerned about change, and may be invested in their original prosthetic devices. For this reason, we recommend scheduling an appointment to discuss just how much of a life-changing decision choosing dental implants can be.  This is an important first step in your journey to an improved quality of life.

Having questions about dental implants is perfectly normal, especially if you are considering having them installed. For those patients who already have a prosthetic device, there is the added concern about changing what they are familiar with.

Will my implants last a long time?

Typically people want to know about longevity and how long will their dental implants hold up.  The answer to this one really depends on a number of factors. Traditionally, dental implants will last anywhere between seven and thirty years. We cannot, however, account for things like gum disease, infections, loss of jaw bone density, and accidents so the number is just an estimate based on previous data. You can have a direct impact on the life cycle of your implants, for example, with great oral health and hygiene habits.

Do dental implants really work?

Yes, absolutely. Another question people have is what is the success ratio of installing implants? We have found that implants are extremely successful, with a success rate that hovers between 93% and 98% depending on other factors in your mouth. Anytime there are complications, like the occurrence of gum disease, the success potential of a dental implant is impacted but even more importantly the long term viability of the prosthetic changes based on the conditions of your mouth.

What will my recovery time be after dental implants?

When it comes to your installation, we want to make sure that it is the most successful possible, giving you the best shot at having your dental implants for a very long time. Second, we want to shorten your recovery time after the procedure is complete. To do this, we tend to do the installation in stages. Between each stage, we have the opportunity to check our work, making any minor modifications as necessary. At the same time between each stage, you will have seven to ten days to heal. Because you are healing slowing throughout the process, you will only need another two weeks after the process is completed to be back to normal.
