What Is Invisalign® Teen?

Invisalign® Teen is a virtually invisible way to straighten a young person’s teeth minus the restrictions that come with metal braces. Rather than brackets and wires, the Invisalign® system uses a series of clear, removable plastic trays that are custom made for your teen’s mouth. The aligner is simply worn over the teeth and replaced approximately every two weeks. Each set, gradually and incrementally moves the teeth one step at a time into the desired position.
 
Who Is Eligible And How Long Does It Take?

Invisalign® can be used for most teenagers. As a trained Invisalign® dentist, we will thoroughly evaluate your teen’s specific dental issues.  The usual treatment time is about the same as with conventional braces, but the actual length of your teen’s treatment depends on the severity of their condition.
 
Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces?

Invisalign® Teen is as effective as traditional metal braces for the most common teeth straightening issues. Like metal braces, the Invisalign® system will successfully treat mild to severe cases, including underbites, overbites, overcrowding, crooked teeth, and gaps between teeth. One of the most popular reasons teens opt for Invisalign® is because it is virtually invisible. Invisalign®’s clear aligners are also very durable and comfortable, so your teen can play sports or play a musical instrument without braces getting in the way. As an Invisalign® dentist, we find that this is sometimes a lot easier than wearing metal braces.
 
With traditional braces, there is a long list of hard or sticky foods your teen is advised not to eat, such as popcorn, candy and apples. Because the clear aligners are removable, there are no such restrictions with Invisalign®. They can go ahead and eat all the things they love without worrying about breaking a bracket or getting a particle of food stuck behind one.

The Invisalign® Teen treatment course requires less time with your Invisalign® dentist than traditional braces do. Follow up appointments are usually scheduled for every four to six weeks.  After the initial consultation with an Invisalign® dentist from our office, there aren’t any adjustments to make and no broken wires to fix.
